To give and to receive

Moms give. Biological moms give their uterus up for nine months, and many give their breasts for months after that. All mothers give away their hearts the second their child enters their lives.

Sometimes mothers give away actual stuff. That time is now, and you could be the recipient of some of that stuff. Trust me, you’ll want it. I’m talking about not one, but TWO awesome giveaways. The first is sponsored by the authors of The Mother of All Meltdowns, in conjunction with a new project.

Our leader extraordinare Crystal Ponti has developed a new community for moms called No Mother Is Perfect. We all have meltdowns, but many moms feel embarrassed or ashamed to talk about their not-so-stellar parenting moments. Clearly I am not one of them, but bloggers tend to be the oversharing types. Mother’s Day can be a day of celebration, but it can also be the hardest day of the year. For grieving mothers, the day is a reminder of what is no longer here, or what will never be. 

Alexa is one of my The Mother of All Meltdowns co-contributors, and she is a grieving mother. Last October, Alexa published the book Sunshine After the Storm: A Survival Guide for the Grieving Mother. It is a moving collection of stories from bereaved parents, filled with tales of pain and hope.

 

Alexa wanted to give more. She created a nonprofit, Sunshine After the Storm, Inc, to raise funds to donate the books to hospitals, bereavement groups, and organizations that support bereaved parents. She also started a special Mother’s Day Campaign to raise money to donate as many books as possible to hospitals and bereavements groups for Mother’s Day. A portion of the funds will be contributed to organizations that support bereaved parents and research for children’s health issues.

As an incentive to contribute to this campaign, Alexa created a giveaway of fifteen incredible items, all donated by people who believe in this project. To enter the giveaway, all that is required is a five dollar donation to the Mother’s Day Campaign.
